Procedures: Facelift (Rhytidectomy)
The surgery can be performed in a physician's office, an outpatient surgical facility or a hospital, depending upon the physician's and patient's preference. It can be done under general anesthesia with the patient asleep or local anesthesia in which the area is numbed and the patient remains awake. Premedication is usually administered to relax the patient. In the basic procedure, the surgeon works on one side of the face at a time. Incisions are made inside the hairline at the temple, running in front of the ear then around the earlobe and behind the ear, ending in the hair of the scalp. Loose skin is separated from underlying tissue and is pulled up and back and excess skin is removed. Connective tissue and sagging muscles are tightened, and in some cases, fat deposits are removed from beneath the chin and neck. This may necessitate an additional small incision under the chin. Tiny sutures are used to close the incisions. A rhytidectomy may take from three to five hours depending on whether other procedures are done at the same time.

Procedures: Cosmetic Surgery of the Forehead( Browlift for a more relaxed look)
A browlift can be performed as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia with deep sedation, or general anesthesia, and may take 1 to 2 hours. With the classical or "open" method the incision is hidden just inside or by the hairline across the scalp and between your ears. Your surgeon lessens the appearance of wrinkles by removing selected muscles and releasing tissues, which cause the wrinkles. The eyebrows may also be elevated, and excess skin at the incision will be removed to allow a gentle redraping of your forehead skin. Endoscopic browlift Endoscopic or minimal-scar browlift is performed using a tiny fiberoptic lens inserted through half-inch incisions placed in the hairline. The lens is attached to a camera, which is connected to a television, allowing for visualization of the surgery. Additional half-inch incisions are made for the insertion of tiny scalpels, scissors and retractors. Your surgeon performs the procedure while viewing the television monitor and manipulating the tiny instruments externally. An endoscopic browlift is particularly useful with younger patients where theremoval of excess skin is not required. With an endoscopic browlift, loss of sensation or hair at the incision site is minimized. Since an endoscopic browlift can significantly reduce the frown lines between the eyes, it is often performed in conjunction with upper eyelid surgery to achieve optimal results. What are the benefits of endoscopic browlift surgery? Smaller incisions Minimal scarring Less bleeding Less hair loss Minimalnumbness Quicker recovery

Procedures: Cosmetic Surgery of the Eyes (Blepharoplasty, forehead and brow lift)
Blepharoplasty can be performed in a physician's office, an outpatient surgical facility or a hospital, depending upon the surgeon's and patient's preference. It can be done under general anesthesia with the patient asleep, or under local anesthesia in which the area is numbed and the patient remains awake. Prior to surgery, pre medication to relax the patient is administered. The surgeon, following natural lines and creases, makes very fine incisions from the inner to the outer edge of the eyelid. In selected cases, incisions can be made inside the eyelid. The upper eyelid is worked on first with the incision made in the fold of the lid. On the lower eyelid, the incision is made directly below the eyelash or in the conjunctive (the lining of the inner eyelid). Excess fat and skin are then removed from the underlying compartments. The amount of fat excised is determined by the degree of protrusion of fat when pressure is gently applied to the area. Small sutures are used to close the incision and special ointments and dressings may be applied. The procedure can take from one to two hours, depending upon the extent of the surgery. Forehead and brow lift surgery A forehead and brow lift can also be performed in either a hospital or office setting using a local or general anesthesia. An incision is made across the top of the head from the front of one ear to the front of the other ear. This incision is made deep within the frontal hairline in order to hide the resulting scar. The forehead and brows are elevated and excess skin is removed. The flap is then sutured. Some patients may benefit from an endoscopic browlift. The endoscope is inserted into smaller incisions in the hairline to elevate the brows.

Procedures: Cosmetic Surgery of the Nose (Rhinoplasty)
The nose is one of the most prominent features of a persons face. Men and women who are dissatisfied with the shape or size of their noses can improve their appearance through a procedure called rhinoplasty. Nasal reconstruction or rhinoplasty was one of the first cosmetic procedures ever developed and is among those most frequently performed today. Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure in which deformities of the nose are corrected by removing, rearranging or reshaping bone or cartilage. Typical reasons for this surgery are to improve the angle, reduce the size of the nose or remove a bump. These conditions may be the result of natural causes or external trauma to the face. Both profile and frontal face views can be altered through rhinoplasty. The surgery can be performed in conjunction with procedures designed to relieve nasal obstructions. It is not usually performed however, until a person has reached the mid-teenage years when growth is nearly complete.

THE PROCEDURE: Rhinoplasty (nose reshaping)
The most challenging procedure in cosmetic surgery. Appearance does matter! They say your eyes are the windows to your soul – but what about your nose? Nothing is as bad, and negative to your overall appearance and ego, than an "out of proportion" nose. Other people unfortunately are drawn to the defect rather than to the inner beauty of the individual. Compounding this virtual pandora's box of problems is usually a loss of function, inability to breathe properly; sometimes even breathe well at all.

Procedures: Breast Augmentation (Augmentation Mammoplasty)
Breast Augmentation Throughout the ages, physical beauty has been determined by the values of each society. In our western culture during the late 1890's, for example, the large breasted woman with the small waist was the ideal. In the "flapper" era of the 1920's, women wanted slim bodies and very small breasts. Because an individual's body build is determined for the most part by genetic influences, women may not be able to achieve the look they want through diet and exercise alone. Today, through modern technology, many women are able to alter the shapes of their bodies. Some with small, underdeveloped or asymmetrical breasts may choose to undergo breast augmentation, a safe, effective surgical procedure designed to improve the contour of a woman's body by implanting specially designed materials beneath the breast or chest wall muscles.

Procedures: Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
The search for physical beauty is no a phenomenon of modern times. Throughout history, people have used various methods to enhance their appearance and conceal what they believed to be imperfections. For many women, the size, shape and contour of their breasts are of particular importance. Today, women who are disturbed by sagging or loose breasts as a result of pregnancy, weight loss or natural aging can be helped by a remarkable surgical technique called breast lift or mastopexy. This procedure is designed to elevate and reshape the breast. The size of the areola, the dark, pink skin circling the nipple, can also be reduced through the procedure. Mastopexy is often performed in conjunction with surgery designed to enlarge the breasts.

Procedures: Breast Reduction (Reduction Mammaplasty)
Very often, women with unusually large, sagging or uneven breasts are dissatisfied with their physical appearance. Some experience pain ordiscomfort from the sheer weight of their breasts and the pressure of brassiere straps on their shoulders. Premenstrual congestion often adds to the discomfort. Large breasts can hamper a woman's physical activities and make it difficult to find properly fitting clothes, particularly brassieres. Today, because of advances in surgical techniques, thousands of women with these problems are being helped through a surgical procedure called reduction mammaplasty or breast reduction. This surgery is designed to improve the body contour, reduce pain, and make the individual more comfortable when engaging in physical activities.

Procedures: Reconstructive Breast Surgery (Post-mastectomy Reconstruction)
One of the primary symbols of womanhood is the breasts, especially in Western culture where fashion has stressed the value of a shapely figure. Many women who must undergo a total or partial removal of a breast as a result of cancer must simultaneously face the threat of the disease and the loss of an important part of her feminine self-image. Today, because of modern technology, a remarkable surgical procedure, post-mastectomy reconstruction, can restore the form and appearance of a woman's breasts and, at the same time, dramatically improve her self-esteem and self-confidence.

Procedures: Abdominoplasty (Tummy-tuck)
Abdominoplasty A protruding abdomen as a result of weak abdominal muscles, weight gain or pregnancy is a condition that causes distress to thousands of people. This condition does not respond well to diet or exercise because the skin and underlying muscles have been stretched. Today, a remarkable procedure called abdominoplasty has been designed to flatten a protruding abdomen through tightening of abdominal wall muscles and removal of excess fatty tissue and skin. Abdominoplasty is not a substitute for weight loss. The objective of the surgery is to improve the contour of the body by flattening and narrowing the abdomen. The best candidate for the surgery is the individual who is of normal weight but who has weak abdominal muscles and excess skin and fat. Age, obesity and smoking habits are some of the factors the physician considers when evaluating a candidate for this procedure.

THE PROCEDURE: Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck)
Appearance Does Matter! They say that your eyes are the window to your soul, but what about your tummy and torso? Nothing is as bad, and negative to your overall appearance and ego, than an out-of-proportion torso and lower abdomen. Other people are unfortunately drawn to the defect rather than to the inner beauty of the individual. Compounding this problem is usually an inability to keep your abdomen flat, especially after a full meal; there is a lower abdominal bulge that will not go away, even after a litany of sit-ups. There is usually loose skin with significant stretch marks, especially after pregnancy or previous surgery. Often there is excess fat in the flanks and back, and even a compounding abdominal incisional hernia can all be part of this "tummy" experience so common to women and even showing up in men.

Procedures: Botox Botulinum Toxin Injections
Throughout history, people have looked for ways to achieve a younger, more vibrant look by improving their facial appearance. A procedure utilizing Botox (Botulinum Toxin) is used for the treatment of facial lines and wrinkles. Botox has been sagely used for certain medical conditions for more than a decade. This procedure, sometimes referred to as cosmetic denervation, has been widely used and is considered a safe and effective way of treating aging skin. It is used to eliminate or reduce worry and frown lines, "crow's feet", laugh lines and other wrinkles sometimes called dynamic wrinkles. The procedure works by physiologically weakening facial muscles beneath the skin that are related to expression lines. The contractions of those muscles result in wrinkles. Botox works by blocking the impulses from the nerve to the facial muscles thereby relaxing them. The result is that the pull of the underlying facial muscles relax causing the skin to flatten. This results in a smooth, unwrinkled look.

Procedures: Dr. Bafitis' primer on facial wrinkle and skin crease fillers
The Plastic Surgery Institute, Inc., and its Medical Director, Dr. Harold Bafitis, a Board Certified plastic surgeon, are dedicated to the utmost in patient care and safety. It has become obvious over the last five years that a revolution is occurring in terms of wrinkle and skin crease "fillers". The revolution began almost 20 years ago with the introduction of Zyderm collagen, and it has continued with the deeper dermal Zyplast collagen. Since that time, a host of filler materials have come and gone, and new ones are extremely promising. In the hopes of patient safety and informed consent, The Plastic Surgery Institute of the Palm Beaches, Inc., is providing some important information on all the available filler materials.Yes, there are some astounding breakthroughs, and yes, with a minimal amount of pain and down time, your troublesome "fixed" (static) wrinkles and furrows can be improved sometimes as much as 70-80%! Please review the following pages to see which material or materials are right for you. Ask our surgical staff of nurses, physician assistants, and medical aestheticians for more information or arrange for a consultation with Dr. Bafitis. Remember, we are familiar with and have used all these materials in a hope of giving you a balanced review for your consideration. NO ONE FILLER MATERIAL IS RIGHT FOR EVERY PATIENT.

Anti Aging

The New Health Revolution Antiaging plastic surgery meets antiaging medicine.
What would an extra five, 10, 15 years or more of quality productive life be worth to you? That's the No. 1 issue facing all of us - how to slow down the aging clock. For more than 10 years, Dr. Harold Bafitis, board-certified plastic surgeon, has been at the "cutting edge" of every advance from body contouring to facial rejuvenation to noninvasive cosmetic surgery. Over the last five years, Dr. Bafitis, who graduated with honors not only in his undergraduate studies, but also form graduate school and medical school, has been involved in the extensive research of antiaging medicine. It is, he says, the perfect complement for a true antiaging package to our patients. "It is like putting on a new filter to examine patients. If, for example, a patient approaches us about loose skin or fat about the eyes, we certainly can address what can be done surgically. Now, however, blood tests can be drawn that actually quantify what key hormones have decreased with age, as this may be the true culprit in the patient's cosmetic concerns. I can be an excellent tailor in terms of sculpting the patient cosmetically, but if the underlying problem is not addressed, problems can reoccur, often very quickly."

Anti-Aging Medicine Regenesis Now A Comprehensive Anti-Aging Program
What if thousands of doctors told you that you may live to be a healthy 100 to even 120 years of age? As it stands, over the past few hundred years, we have increased the life expectancy more than 40 years, 27 in the 20th century alone. Medical and Scientific knowledge is doubling every 3 1/2 years which means in 20 years we will know 64 times more about disease and aging than we currently know. Imagine the possible health advances in the next two decades alone. The future is now! Since we are participating in the greatest health revolution of mankind, you may wonder why you haven't heard about it yet. The Scientific community is just now focusing attention on it. Thousands of doctors are beginning to seek out and understand anti-aging. Breakthroughs are available now, all backed by science and a myriad of research studies.
